i heard things about images permanently being on the screen or something?

I’m in need of a new tv, but don’t know much about plasma versus lcd, or the difference in brands.

Black friday ads have a 42 inch Polaroid LCD 1080p HDTV for $598

and a Samsung 50″ Plasma HDTV for $798 – both from Walmart.

We would like at least a 42 inch, but the 50 inch size wouldn’t be out of the question.

That said, I’m not sure of the difference in brands or if plasma or lcd is the way to go. Any help here? The only thing I’ve noticed is that plasmas seem to be cheaper?

in case i take the plunge this holiday

wondering cuz i have the samsung, but i found the philips plasma for $50 less. anyone have an opinion on which one i go with?

have a 42 inch vizio ? just out of the warrenty ..about 1yr. to a year and a half old? and you have sound but no pic? your not alone trust me, please contact the better bus. burea. appears to be a common problem that vizio doesnt want to adress. let me know if youve had this problem!!! thx.
as to the responses, tv is supposed to have a 27,000 hr. rating till half bulb life. even if i ran it 24/7, that would only be about 9000. i have searched other sites and there loaded with people in my situation. kind of like the xbox 360, type deal. [ red rings] that got recalled. and even if it is off brand, would you expect a 800$ tv to last for more than 13 mnths.? extended warr.? why would a buy a extended warr. on a tv [ on the box..’expected life 27,000hr. or on ave 25yrs.’ does your warr. cover that? theres a problem with the componets in this model. may be if they include a warning on the box too..25% of our tvs will die with in 15mths, so disregard the previous ave. life numbers. ps… extended warr. are the biggest waste of money, and biggest earner for companies.. see consumer reports, any other consumers guide.. im 37 and have never had to use 1 , have you? bet ya spent 1000s on em, appliances , tvs, stereos, etc. even if ibuy a new tv im still ahead, not buying em!

I want to buy a TV but I’m not sure Plasma or LCD is better, money is the least of my expectations.. Any Advice? and why?? thanks
