how do I get the volume working again on my Vizio 42 inch screen TV?
I own a 42 inch LCD T.V. and the remote for it quit working over night. I have managed to get the channels and the inputs working, but for the volume I have to literally hold the remote next to the buttons on the side of the TV. the volume doesn’t even work on my Comcast remote. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi,
It looks like your tv’s remote needs new batteries and IR transmitter cleaning. Before that this is how you use your cable box’s (Comcast remote) on your tv. On the Comcast remote, there shoud be a button called TV, press that and now you will be able to control the volume on your tv. When you want to use it for your Comcast, press the button that says Cable or CBL for short or which ever button you think identifies your cable box. Now about your tv’s remote, it you already have new batteries, its good. Now take a small piece cotton cloth, lightly soak it with warm water(not hot but warm) on top of your remote, gently wipe the IR transmitter in a circular motiong until you get the dirt out. If you see the dirt on the cloth clean it and again soak it with warm water, now on your tv locate the IR reciever on the front and do the same thing like you did for the remote. Your remote should now work, if not some IC inside remote has failed. In that case use your Comcast remote. Please note that if your tv’s IR (infrared) sensor is dirty, the Comcast remote will have trouble too. So do the claning first if you can’t get the Comcast remote to work. I am in Canada, and I have Rogers as my cable provider. I don’t even bother with my tv remote, I just use my Rogers remote for both the tv and the cable box.
Good luck with everything!
well it sounds like your remote has A short in it so you should call the company that made your TV and ask for A TV technician that might be able to help you with your TV remote
