I bought this TV in the day after Thanksgiving sales and thinking it was a great deal. Boy, I got more then I bargained for...the TV is awesome. When I first got it out of the box I was surprised at how light it is. Then when I finally got it up on the wall and plugged in the TV itself picked on roughly about 30 EXTRA channels I have never seen before included HD channels of the majority of the normal free channels (NBC, Fox, ABC, etc...) Let me tell you if you have never seen football or any sports game on HD you'll be in for a surprise. I am not a fan of football, but when I was flipping through the channels and saw the difference between regular and HD, no wonder people want to purchase HD DVD's. I am really considering purchasing HD videos from now on because of how clear they appear. So moral of the story...FANTASTIC!!!, this is a great product.

i read amazon user reviews on the 32" or 37" model and learned that consumer reports had given an olevia 42" model a best buy rating. had been looking at lcd's for some days now and decided that, for my budget, this 42-incher is an excellent choice. got it at sears for $770. the side speakers make it look bigger than other 42-inchers. the menu looks funny but you get used to it. pleased with the way dvd's look on it, pretty sharp. the directv channels look better on it than on the sony 51" rptv i had. very good color rendition; a lot of controls and inputs; blacks aren't the best on the block but acceptable at this price point. i'm picking up a toshiba hd dvd player in a few days and will let you know how it goes.
[nov. 20th]...yep, got the hd dvd player two days ago and i'm hooked on hd movies: the olevia hd picture is simply beautiful. this month's consumer reports mentions olevia again as a very good inexpensive hdtv.

I own two Olevia's and they perform flawlessly. There are plenty of HD inputs (2)HDMI (2)Component and a VGA for your computer. Excellent HD picture Out of the box, but can be tweaked using any THX certified DVD. Good job scanning digital cable with the ATSC tuner. This LCD performs just as well as the top of the line manufacturer's
Pros: Good connectivity. Excellent HD. Good Standard Def. Wide viewing angle. Excellent value for a 42 inch LCD(under $[...]with rebate)
Cons: No hard copied user manual (CD ROM). Some remote issues in the OSD.
Syntax Brillion is a up and coming manufacture of LCD displays, their customer service is quite helpful.

Got this TV from sears for $865 including a tax and 3yr warranty. I was really impressed with it the second I saw the clarity on the floor. I was hesitant at first due to the unpopular brand name. But don't underestimate. Originally I wanted to get an LG, but this TV is comparable in quality. I definitely would like to recommend getting HD Cable to get the full capability of this TV. I cannot believe we paid so low for this TV! My dad has a Sony Viesta Plasma and paid $1600.00 for it, after seeing our TV. He was speechless! He paid way too much for his TV. When you first turn the TV on, don't be disappointed with the sharpness. It's not the TV, it's regular cable. It's like getting premium speakers but playing on a low watt receiver. Get HD. This TV was made for HD. Love it! love it!
Do research on your own, don't listen to sales people. This TV is a 720 but it is 1080 capable. Love it! Better buy one before everybody finds out that this TV is as good as the leading brands!

Don't buy a Syntax Olevia! I bought one and it died almost to the day the warranty went out. Customer service said I would have to pay to ship it back and pay the parts and labor to fix it and that would cost over half of the TV's cost. They wouldn't offer to help with anything and they said they lost my registration card, the same one they used to call me with to ask me how I liked it a week after I bought the TV. So all I can do is to post this to every blog I can to try to inform others.
